One day workshop developed and facilitated in close collaboration with meteorologist Vinita Deshmukh.

To read a storm is to map the structure of a cyclone and to understand its excess heat as inseparable from four centuries of extractivism. Guided by scientific models and participants’ experiences of the weather, this workshop explores how to ‘read’ storms in the sky and in satellite images.

The morning was dedicated to an introduction to amateur radio and remote sensing. In the afternoon, Deshmukh shared with us how the shapes and altitudes of clouds can be ‘read’ to forecast incoming weather. Finally, we attempted to hand draw weather nowcasts.
