Another Space Agency is Possible ASAP

Video still. Extract from interview with Michèle Boulogne.

Following the United States government’s abrupt decommissioning in 2025 of the last weather satellites to transmit open-access analogue weather images, Dyer began recording interviews with artists, activists, and authors to document their use and understanding of remote sensing. Here, remote sensing includes satellite images captured by government space agencies, alongside poetic technologies and cultural maps for sensing our planet and each other.

First broadcast in Valparaíso, Chile, in January 2026, the work continues to grow as new conversations are recorded. The interviewees’ voices enter the room as transmissions from diverse geographic, cultural and personal sites of inquiry and creativity. What space, agency and remote sensing mean is shaped by the multidimensional location of each speaker. By assembling these stories, ASAP honours a counter-history of space that ranges from Afro- and Arabfuturisms to queer spacecraft. Together, these are tales of othering and belonging, resistance and the creation of space itself.
